One
must highlight the tremendous importance that thermal baths had in Roman Society. These
were a meeting-place as well as a way to relax. The buildings were divided up into many
rooms: the cloakroom; the frigidarium; a room furnished with a cold bath and used for
cooling-off; the tiepidarium, lukewarm baths; and lastly the caldarium or boiler room.
Furnaces were used to heat the water.
